The endless debate! Is is mint chocolate muddy buddies? Or mint chocolate puppy chow? I grew up calling it puppy chow…but I found out that- technically, according to the stuff sold in stores- it’s called muddy buddies. Whatever you call it, it’s delicious. I love muddy buddies. And I love mint. So I combined them!

This is easy to make (as are all muddy buddies). And it’s delicious. My husband doesn’t like mint and I didn’t want to eat it all, so I sent it into George’s workplace. The results came back favorable. At least that was the explanation I deduced since it disappeared in under an hour. (haha)

Muddy Buddies are some of my favorite desserts…they’re easy and they taste fabulous. In fact, I have an entire page dedicated to them! Check out “Puppy Chow & Barks“.

I use mint chips in this recipe (and in my Grasshopper Mint Bark). I had quite a bit of trouble finding mint chocolate around here. So, Amazon to the rescue! Now, since I make big batches and it was the cheapest option, I got the “Guittard Green Mint Chips (6 pack)“. They do have single and three-packs, but they cost a bit more per ounce.

Andes Mint Muddy Buddies

Ingredients

  • 10 C. Chocolate Chex
  • 1 C. mint chips
  • 2 tsp. shortening
  • 1 C. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 tsp. mint extract
  • 2 C. powdered sugar
  • 30 Andes mints or desired amount

Instructions

  • Mise en place. Divide cereal evenly into two different medium-size bowls. Set aside.
  • Melt mint chips and 1 tsp. of shortening in microwave for 30 seconds at 50% power. Stir (even if nothing is melted). Continue to heat in 20 second intervals at 50% power, stirring well between each heating cycle. (Be careful...chocolate scorches easily. The bowl should never be hot to the touch).
  • Pour melted mint chips over 5 C. of chocolate Chex. Stir well, coating all the cereal.
  • Toss cereal in a large Ziploc bag with 1 cup of powdered sugar. Mix well, but gently, breaking up any chunks. Spread out onto a baking sheet to dry.

  • While muddy buddies are drying, break up desired amount of Andes mints (chop into thirds or halves).
  • After muddy buddies are dried, toss both flavors and Andes mints together. Serve.

Thank you! It’s wonderful to hear that. I hear all the time about the free printables. But recipes are by far the second (not first) in popularity. And I actually started with the recipes. And always test recipes multiples times, with variations, etc.
But anyways, thanks for commenting! And glad you liked the recipe.
