Patriotic Pretzels: Red, White, & Blue Pretzels.
Sweet and salty treat great for the Fourth of July. Easy to make.

Looking for an easy-to-make snack that looks great for the Fourth of July? Try out these Patriotic Pretzels! Sweet, salty, crunchy, and delicious.

I tried out every combination of sparkles and colored chocolates…but my favorites were definitely the blue sparkles on the blue chocolate, red sparkles on red chocolate, and clear sparkles on the white chocolate. Which do you like best?

If you stick with just red, white, and blue, then you can also arrange them to make an American flag. That would be cute too!

Notes on ingredients

If you’re not sure what sanding sugar (or sparkling sugar) is, here are links for it: Blue Sanding Sugar, Red Sanding Sugar, and White Sparkling Sanding Sugar.

I used Wilton candy melts, like these Royal Blue ones. But you can use any brand candy melts you want. I just like how the Wilton ones melt and coat. (I’ve tested out a bunch of brands. Wilton wins for melt ability and taste by far.)

Patriotic Pretzels

Easy, salty and sweet snack for the Fourth of July.
Course Appetizer, Dessert
Cuisine American
Keyword FourthofJuly, patriotic, pretzels

Ingredients

  • Pretzels
  • 1 bag candy melts Royal Blue
  • 1 bag candy melts Red
  • 1 bag candy melts white
  • 1 container blue sanding sugar
  • 1 container red sanding sugar
  • 1 container white sanding sugar

Instructions

  • Mise en place. Lay out parchment paper on the counter.
  • Melt the blue candy melts in the microwave for 30 seconds at 50% power. Stir, even if nothing is melted. Continue to heat for 30 second (50% power) intervals, stirring between each heating cycle, until candy melts are melted.
  • Dip pretzel in blue candy melts. Shake well to discard excess chocolate. Set pretzel on parchment paper. Generously sprinkle with sanding sugar. Repeat with more pretzels.
  • Melt the red candy melts in the microwave for 30 seconds at 50% power. Stir, even if nothing is melted. Continue to heat for 30 second (50% power) intervals, stirring between each heating cycle, until candy melts are melted.
  • Dip pretzel in red candy melts. Shake well to discard excess chocolate. Set pretzel on parchment paper. Generously sprinkle with sanding sugar. Repeat with more pretzels.
  • Melt the white candy melts in the microwave for 30 seconds at 50% power. Stir, even if nothing is melted. Continue to heat for 30 second (50% power) intervals, stirring between each heating cycle, until candy melts are melted.
  • Dip pretzel in white candy melts. Shake well to discard excess chocolate. Set pretzel on parchment paper. Generously sprinkle with sanding sugar. Repeat with more pretzels.
  • Allow candy melts to harden completely before moving pretzels.

Notes

I experimented with every color combination of sanding sugar and colored candy melts. I would recommend sticking with blue on blue, red on red, and white on white. Those turned out the best. But feel free to mix it up!
