I might have found a new low for my “Throwback Thursday” series. Or a new high, depending how you’re judging, I guess. It wasn’t just the ‘fancy hotdog’ that made this bad. That alone we could deal with. It was the instructions to serve it as follows: “Try putting the dog on…this creamy potato salad served with a tomato half filled with pickle relish, plus carrot curls, romaine leaves and black olives.”
Pickle relish? Carrot curls? I give up.

The original source of this photo is from Kitchen Monkey, which had a fabulous party entitled “A Mad Men Cocktail Party – Fondue, Gimlets, & Gourmet Hot Dogs of Yore.” They state they got it out of a Betty Crocker cookbook. I think there might have been some confusion, though, as you can see the Woman’s Day magazine title along with page number 78. However, it is possible Betty Crocker got permission to print it from Woman’s Day. The author Maida Heatter did write for cookbooks, it appears. I did multiple internet searches but couldn’t find this image or this combination of title and author.
The close-up is even better
